Years ago, at our wedding reception, we soaked whole ears of corn, shucks and all, silk still on, then baked in the oven and after all the ears were hot, we used rubber gloves shuck for serving. Virtually all of the silk came off of the ears just by peeling the shucks off in handfulls. I have done this on the barbeque/grill as well.

I am pretty lazy when it comes to whole ears of corn and I always have rubber gloves around; this is a match made in heaven.
